Daniel Albo, MD, PhD

Dr. Albo is currently the Director of Surgical Oncology Services and Co-Leader, Colorectal Cancer Service at Georgia Regents University Cancer Center in Augusta‎ GA‎.  His clinical expertise is on minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgical oncology, with special emphasis on colorectal and hepatobiliary malignancies. He has extensively studied the patterns of utilization as well as the barriers and facilitators for a widespread application of minimally invasive surgery in colorectal diseases. Dr. Albo has developed a unique re-training program that has successfully led to the conversion of open colorectal surgical units into minimally invasive ones. His work has resulted in over 100 publications, multiple book chapters and several grants. He is the co-editor of Operative Techniques in Colorectal Surgery and Operative Techniques in Surgery. Dr. Albo has held leadership roles in several academic surgical societies, including having served as the President for the Association for Academic Surgery.
